(Post pregnancy) My birth experience on 12 July 2016

Finally sharing my birth experience for Keira!

I gave birth on 12 July 2016, Tuesday. When I went for my weekly check up the Friday before, Dr Heng checked that I was 3cm dilated and baby was estimated 3kg. She told me if I waited for baby to be full term at 40 weeks, baby would be 3.4kg. She suggested that I be induced so that I can have a more prepared delivery, instead of not knowing when I would pop. I decided why not since there could be a chance I pop before Tusday even came.

The weekend passed and I was surprised that Keira was still hanging inside! She really listened to mummy! Lol.

Tuesday came and I went to the hospital early in the morning at 7.30am. My MIL stayed over so that she could stay with Leia. My mum and G and I a lift to Parkway East Hospital. We were checked into the labour ward at the admission counter after settling some admin. We originally decided to go with single ward but eventually, which is a good thing, we could not get because the hospital was just too full.

Like before, I was asked to change into the labour gown and do a urine test. They strapped my belly to monitor baby's heartbeat and my contractions. The nurse asked me if I wanted an epidural because she had to make arrangements for him to come.

At that point in time, I honestly was not sure. I was wondering of I could postpone it given my previous experience with epidural i.e. An overdose which made me so numb that I could not feel the urge to push with Leia. Eventually, the nurse convinced me to take it early because it's my second labour and it might progress so fast that it might get too painful to administer the epidural later.

The anesthetist came before 9am to do it for me. And he looked like the one who did it for me before!  Despite having done epidural before, I was afraid. I remember it being painful and I didn't remember it wrongly! I had to curl up like a ball and when he jabbed my spine, it hurt sooooo baaaad. I had to hold my breath. And because of the pain, I flinched and it kinda made things worse. The dr actually sounded panicky. -.- thank goodness he did it successfully since epidural can be rather dangerous to use.

Right after, Dr Heng came in to check on me. She did a cervix check and I was 4cm dilated (I only dilated 1cm more over the weekend). Funnily, she asked if I wanted my labour to be fast or slow. And I asked her plainly 'you mean I can choose?!' Lol. She proceeded to burst my Waterbag at 9am.

Then it went sooooooooo fast from there. After 2 hours of resting, I started feeling the urge to poo/push. I never felt like this with Leia. After having this feeling 3 times, I decided to check with the nurse. She immediately checked my cervix and it had dilated to 8cm! I was still feeling rather chill about it since there was 2cm more to go. But the nurses started to look very busy and called dr Heng to come.

She came shortly and started putting on gloves and looked like she was gonna deliver my baby lol. I was taken aback because I wasn't sure if I (or baby) was ready. Anyway she propped up my legs and asked me to push. After like 3-4 pushes, Keira was born! It took like 10 mins! Both G and I were kinda shocked that it took so fast lol.

Keira was born at 11.10am, at 3.053kg, 50cm.
