I had my first prenatal checkup yesterday! Visited Dr Heng at her clinic, within parkway east hospital.
I was feeling nervous before the visit. I didn't know what to expect and I was worried for the baby. All I hoped for was for baby to be safe and developing well.
Anyways, Dr Heng turned out to be a really nice lady. Her check up was so fast and efficient. I basically went in with Gerald, told her my last period date and she did my ultrasound immediately.
And there it was! My baby on the screen, appearing like a lil lump at the right bottom corner of my uterus. According to the measurements, baby's 8 weeks, 1 day old on 28th May.
And the most amazing bit was listening to baby's heartbeat! Omg, it was such a moment to remember. The quick, thumping heartbeat almost had me emotional.
Gerald was so funny. He actually couldn't tell where the baby was. He thought it looked like a donut!
After the ultrasound, Dr Heng answered some of our queries and basically that was it! Fast checkup. Next one in end June!
Now I'm just praying for baby to be safe!

First trimester blues.
As most preggie websites would agree, the first trimester is definitely a challenging and trying time.
Overwhelmed by exhaustion and constantly aching breasts, I feel tired most of the time. Basically, I haven't had much desire or motivation to do anything. I really feel like the laziest person around! Lots of forums say that it's perfectly normal since baby making takes up loads of energy. And the body's basically transforming into a good home for the baby. Whilst this reassures me, sometimes I still feel quite frustrated being so tired all the time. I feel like I can't go about my life like how I used to. Still need to get used to this.
This is a period of so much change (bodily and emotional) and uncertainty! And there is much to think about... So much to prepare for mentally and physically. I gotta be strong, positive and happy to take it on! Just really glad I have the support of hubba and my family. They make me feel so loved.
Going for first pre-natal appt in two days! Can't wait. Feeling excited and nervous at the same time. Hope everything is well for baby!

Preggie journey: Eating well.
I just did some homework, reading my (What to expect when you're expecting) book.
And apparently, eating well when you're expecting is one of the first and best gifts you can give to your bundle of joy. I totally believe in this. Eating well should definitely help a baby develop healthily and allow a preggie mum to have a safe and comfortable pregnancy!
So I'm gonna try to stick to a good pregnancy diet. It's not going to be easy but I'm committed to do so. *fighting!*
Basically, the foundation of a good preggie diet is: A good balanced mix of protein + calcium, whole grains, a rainbow of fruits + veggies and healthy fats.
I'm quite surprised at the servings required for each category, especially for calcium (4) and whole grains (6)! It seems like I need to take alot of milk, cheese, yogurt etc. to fulfill my calcium needs and I currently don't take such foods so regularly. Need to work on this! Same for whole grains. Gotta start eating more oatmeal, wholemeal bread or brown ric, other than cereal.

The big surprise!
Can't believe it's only slightly more than a week since our surprise on 9th May. Feels longer than that!
Today, I'm about to share the surprise since this is afterall, my blog and diary. I want to document this entire journey so that I can look back and remember it clearly =)
So... *drumroll* we found out that I'm preggie!
I know! Such a surprise. It was totally unexpected. I recall how I was telling myself that I can't be preggie as I was using the test that morning. So funny. It actually turned positive almost immediately. And when it happened, I was so stumped. Then I called Gerald to share the news!
Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience so far.
- Preggie Symptoms:
Missed period, exhaustion, very sore boobs, no appetite. So far no morning sickness! *cross fingers*
Emotional changes:
I've been happy but paranoid since i found out! The first trimester is known to be critical period for baby development. Basically a period of uncertainty. You don't really know if your baby can make it past this period. That's really scary actually. And it doesn't help that you can't tell your baby's progress at all! You have no idea how he or she is developing.
Anyways, I've been trying to be more careful and positive. But at times, I end up over analyzing certain symptoms like cramps or right hand stitches. Been reading alot of pregnancy forums and its reassuring to find that its normal to feel paranoid. Most advise to relax ad not worry because stress is not good for the baby. So I've decided to trust in God and leave it in his hands. It's not easy but I'm trying.
Diet:
Researched on foods to eat (especially during 1st trimester) and foods to avoid during pregnancy.
To eats:
- Whole grains (high fibre bread, brown rice)
- Folic acid and folate rich foods like broccoli, spinach and asparagus. Helps to prevent birth defects.
- Calcium and iron rich foods. Been drinking fresh milk + soya milk!
- Vitamin B6 rich foods like bananas etc.
To avoid:
- Raw foods like sashimi and undercooked meats + eggs. Contains bacteria that is harmful to developing baby.
- Certain soft cheese and liver.
- Caffeine! Totally stopped drinking coffee and teh.
Habits:
- Been sleeping alot more and earlier! Too tired most of the time.
- Hubba and I have started talkin to the baby even though we know he/she can't hear yet hehe.
- Don't feel like doing much most of the time!
Next up:
Gerald found a good gynae at Parkway east hospital and we made our first prenatal appt on 28th! I cannot wait for the day to come, seriously! I'm just praying for the baby's safety.

It's been a while!
Hello! I'm baaaack!
The last week has been a rather eventful one. Especially towards the end. I discovered something totally unexpected! In order not to jinx it, I'm only gonna blog about at a later date. I can only say that life really surprises you sometimes.
Well, I'm going ahead to post about the highlights of last week!
Did much Mother's Day celebrating. It was buffet galore! We had Sakura on Monday then korean BBQ on Tuesday. Oh my all the food. My appetite wasn't very good though so I didn't eat that much. Phew.
Oh! Michelle and I tied a new snack recipe at work. S'mores! So American and so easy to do. We basically just put one slab of chocolate on a digestive biscuit, piled on one marshmallow and microwaves the combi. It was so funny seeing the marshmallow grow soooo big whilst being heated. Then, to finish the prep, we topped it off with another biscuit. Like a burger! It was rich and yummy. Thumbs up.
Really enjoyed my consecutive date nights w hubba on sat and sun. Love watching movies w him! (Even tho he always disturbs me in random ways during any movie). And hubba was really nice to give into my craving for nandos chicken when he didn't really want any. *blessed*
