Can't believe it's only slightly more than a week since our surprise on 9th May. Feels longer than that!
Today, I'm about to share the surprise since this is afterall, my blog and diary. I want to document this entire journey so that I can look back and remember it clearly =)
So... *drumroll* we found out that I'm preggie!
I know! Such a surprise. It was totally unexpected. I recall how I was telling myself that I can't be preggie as I was using the test that morning. So funny. It actually turned positive almost immediately. And when it happened, I was so stumped. Then I called Gerald to share the news!
Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience so far.
- Preggie Symptoms:
Missed period, exhaustion, very sore boobs, no appetite. So far no morning sickness! *cross fingers*
Emotional changes:
I've been happy but paranoid since i found out! The first trimester is known to be critical period for baby development. Basically a period of uncertainty. You don't really know if your baby can make it past this period. That's really scary actually. And it doesn't help that you can't tell your baby's progress at all! You have no idea how he or she is developing.
Anyways, I've been trying to be more careful and positive. But at times, I end up over analyzing certain symptoms like cramps or right hand stitches. Been reading alot of pregnancy forums and its reassuring to find that its normal to feel paranoid. Most advise to relax ad not worry because stress is not good for the baby. So I've decided to trust in God and leave it in his hands. It's not easy but I'm trying.
Diet:
Researched on foods to eat (especially during 1st trimester) and foods to avoid during pregnancy.
To eats:
- Whole grains (high fibre bread, brown rice)
- Folic acid and folate rich foods like broccoli, spinach and asparagus. Helps to prevent birth defects.
- Calcium and iron rich foods. Been drinking fresh milk + soya milk!
- Vitamin B6 rich foods like bananas etc.
To avoid:
- Raw foods like sashimi and undercooked meats + eggs. Contains bacteria that is harmful to developing baby.
- Certain soft cheese and liver.
- Caffeine! Totally stopped drinking coffee and teh.
Habits:
- Been sleeping alot more and earlier! Too tired most of the time.
- Hubba and I have started talkin to the baby even though we know he/she can't hear yet hehe.
- Don't feel like doing much most of the time!
Next up:
Gerald found a good gynae at Parkway east hospital and we made our first prenatal appt on 28th! I cannot wait for the day to come, seriously! I'm just praying for the baby's safety.
